Joel McHale and Bryan Adams stand up for gay rights

On the weekend, we told you about Bruce Springsteen's stand against the recent anti-LGBT law in North Carolina; he canceled his upcoming show there as a sign of solidarity for gay rights activists.

Other celebrities are also taking a stand.

Comedian Joel McHale decided not to cancel his performance in Durham, NC, instead offering all of the profits from the gig to the local LGBTQ Center.

He told the audience, "What the fuck is wrong with your government, you guys?" while wearing a handmade shirt that read "LGBTQ Durham."

He admitted he had planned to cancel his show until he heard that the Durham City Council passed a resolution opposing "that stupid fucking bill."

In Mississippi, where another anti-gay bill was passed to allow businesses and individuals to refuse service to the LGBT community if it conflicted with their sincerely held faith, Canadian rocker Bryan Adams pulled an upcoming show.

In a statement posted to his Instagram account, Adams said he could not “in good conscience” perform in a state where “certain people are being denied their civil rights due to their sexual orientation."

He added that he found it “incomprehensible that LGBT citizens are being discriminated against, ...[and] hopefully Mississippi will right itself and I can come back and to perform to all of my many fans."
